One stressor down, 1,593,932 to go!

Reality ruins my life
Took LSAT.

So, that happened.

People have been defriending me left and right, and I deserve it. Hopefully I will be a, you know, real person again after I finish the move?

In the meantime, there's this vid. And I point this out because... okay, here's the thing... because I desperately want an SGA teamshippy vid to that song. So much team joy! So much dorky silliness! So much minor character love! Is that not the best OTTeam song ever?

Seriously, if Sweet Charity was still running, I would spend money on this. Big money. If you are a competent vidder? I would pay you in fic. I mean, actual fic, to spec and on deadline and everything. Seriously. And also give you my firstborn child, possibly.

That was all.

Movies and a bunny

  • May. 30th, 2009 at 2:43 AM
Hardison, O Rly?
Point the First: I am having good luck with obscure movies lately. Where the Heart Is was almost embarrassingly adorable (not to mention surreal, bizarre, hilarious, and highly entertaining). Treed Murray was actually quite good- good in a very particular, writerly, theater-feeling kind of way. Actually, it reminded me of nothing so much as Twelve Angry Men, though I'd have a hard time justifying that comparison. In any case, the script was good, I enjoyed the one-set feel, and Hewlett absolutely carried the movie... except for the times when he was outshone by the startlingly magnetic, charismatic, powerful Cle Bennett as Shark the gang leader. And the last Hewlett thing I grabbed, Cube (which has been on my "SF cult movies" to-watch list for years) was creepy as fuck oh my god. So, all in all, I'm liking my movie-picking mojo right now.

Point the Second: In twelve hours, [info]bdblack will be here. With luck, this will help immensely with the current funk.

Point the Third: [info]wyomingnot talked to me about Leverage.

This makes me think: Surely somewhere out there is the crossover/fusion/AU that puts Alec Hardison and Rodney McKay in a room together. It must exist. Think about it.

(Seriously, if Rodney's life had taken only a slightly different turn, he could totally have become a brilliant cyber-criminal. And Rodney would be, like, the old acknowledged master, and Hardison would be the up-and-coming arrogant pup with no respect and they would totally hate each other and then somehow the Leverage team and the SGA team (Spies Getting Awesome! Because John thought the acronym sounded cool. Rodney cannot remember why they ever started letting John name things, but Ronon and Teyla don't care what they're called) end up working the same job. This has the added advantage of having Eliot and Ronon in the same room too, possibly beating each other up. While Rodney and Hardison snark a lot.

If somebody gave me the plot for the job, I would totally write this, but I can't imagine somebody hasn't already)

A collection of linkage

Science fiction
In which it is all hilarytamar's fault )

Catalysis for Dummies is the cutest John/Rodney AU in quite a while.

And a Kings rec, the first NC-17 Jack/David I have liked yet: All Tomorrow's Parties

Awesome linkage:

A Mathematical Limerick. I am fairly sure this wins the internet. (It works, as far as I can tell. I won't admit how tough it was to remember how to deal with that)

Now this is a man who understands procrastination: Part one, two, three, four, and five.

Random: From now on, I shall endeavor to keep Certera's Law in mind when selecting my online reading material. (Like I wasn't already)

Look, it's not Kings! (Or: SG1 and SGA recs)

make porn
The thing about SF fandom, sometimes, is that the porn is hilarious. And I don't mean this in a bad way at all- not even a teeny-tiny bit. It's great.

I am speaking, you see, of [info]john_farr, the multiple-AU built around that time John Sheppard went into Ponn Farr (subtitle: because mating cycles are hot!). Or at least, it starts that way (you should start here, which is short and sexy), and then balloons out into no less than four interconnected AUs where, due to Goauld manipulation, human physiology is very different. As an open 'verse the writing is inconsistent, of course- but might I recommend the sequel Skin Hunger, the John backstory Battlefield, and the Uni!John and Virgin!John AU branches?

And the thing about this is that I honestly have no idea if I have to hit my bunk or if I am just going to sit here giggling wildly. Because seriously: shit like this only happens in SF fanfic. Aliens make them do it! Ancient tech gives them telepathy/tentacles/an insatiable sex drive/whatever! Sex pollen! Elaborately constructed plotty setups that boil down to, "due to the applied phlebotinum, you must have sex or die. Get to it." And, seriously, it's ridiculous but it really hits the Id vortex buttons, doesn't it?

And just then I saw that [info]paian posted fic, which always sends me into raptures of joy- but it turns out to be a double whammy. A sex pollen (in her warning, she says: aliens-gave-them-an-excuse-to-do-it. Truth in warnings! ♥) but also an alien-tech SF plot device that is on the face of it sort of ridiculous (in the best possible way) and yet allows for this intense, desperate, bizarre and disorienting non-con voyeurism thing that is hot as fuck and Jesus, I will be in my bunk.

Oh, science fiction. *rueful headshake* Ever since the original Star Trek writers came up with Ponn Farr, the descendants of which are God's gift to porn, I tell you. My love knows no bounds.

(And yes, I've been reading this stuff for a LONG TIME. I have no idea why the ridiculousness of it all hit me so hard just now)

SGA ficlet: Obvious

  • Feb. 14th, 2009 at 6:34 PM
slash kiss
Obvious
Itty-bitty early-seasons McShep, PG-13.
(Mostly an experiment in Rodney's internal voice. This is totally what I think the inside of his head sounds like, at 99 miles an hour, all the time)

Sheppard's lips on his were warm and soft and very, very unexpected. )

Happy Valentine's Day, everybody!
Atlantis
SGA. Of course )

And for all that the writers didn't seem to know what the strength of their creation really was, that Ur-story of the city on the edge of forever, the expedition to another galaxy, the island-of-misfit-toys vibe of all these dorky, lonely, antisocial Earth outcasts and alien leftovers coming together into a family in the city of the Ancestors, the awe and the wonder and the geeky genre-savvy joy of it... No matter how badly it was mishandled, that basic story is so powerful to me that I can hardly bear it. That is all.
plot bunnies
Thing 1: Merlin )

Anyway, I strongly sense a long ramble coming about what those magic elements have been, in the past, and why Arthurian legend is solid magic for me but so far Merlin isn't, and what the zing could be in Merlin but the show is so far failing to give me.

Thing 2: Vid )

I'm just saying, if I could vid, that's what I'd vid.

SGA Fic: Slipping Into Place

  • Jan. 1st, 2009 at 2:34 PM
Rodney and Radek
My GOD, y'all, so much drunken Twittering apparently happened last night! Happy 2009 to everyone. I'll be spammy today, as I have to post all my anonymous Christmas fic and answer feedback.

Slipping Into Place
Pairing: McKay/Zelenka, McKay/Sheppard/Zelenka
Rating: NC-17
A/N: [info]sga_santa fic, originally posted here, for [info]sirkate. She requested these characters in some sort of slash configuration, and "sex and cuteness and happy endings." I have no idea if this fits the bill, but it's the story I've got. Have an absolutely wonderful Christmas, and a rewarding New Year! (And thanks to [info]bdblack for an incredible amount of handholding even though he doesn't like slash)

Radek is lucky he's not a jealous man )

Merry Christmas!

Just watched the Lost Treasure of the Grand Canyon. And, okay, it isn't as bad as MegaSnake or Sumuru, but it sure as hell ain't good. You know, if I were Michael Shanks, I would have started to object to being typecast quite a while ago (probably at least by the time they had him talk about Sumer and Babylon on Eureka- then again, didn't he play somebody totally different in Judicial Indiscretion? Maybe I should watch that). That is, if I wasn't busy objecting to being cast in such crappy movies.

Confidential to Michael Shanks:
Dear Michael,

Please, for the love of God, get a better agent. Also, your fake snooty British accent has not improved with age. I still love you, though
-Justine

End of SGA has leaked. Have not yet watched it. Won't, til after the New Year. Am trying not to think about it. V. sad.

This is probably the single best peice of writing meta I have ever seen, and has somehow managed to make all my difficulties with plot crystal clear to me, when a thousand writing metas haven't before.

You know how I said I was done with the [info]sga_santa recs? I lied. Go read Short and Stout right now. Do not attempt to drink anything while you read it.

Atlantis
Well, I have gone back through [info]sga_santa and left fb for everything I read before. I’ve been hopping around a lot, avoiding total AUs and anything over 10k words. Instead, I’ve been hitting everything that features Lorne, Zelenka, Ronon, or says “humor,” only foraying into McShep when the plot looks good. Not sure why- just the mood I’m in.

SGA Recs )
I still have some long ones I want to read, but that's it for now!

Somewhere around lj (I wish I remembered where) I saw an icon that read "peppered with actual" across the top and "on top" on the bottom. In between? Yup, a picture of John.

I love fandom.

SGA Fic: Open like the Morning Glory

  • Dec. 8th, 2008 at 7:06 PM
Rodney and Radek
Apparently I am capable of writing everything except what I actually should be writing. You see, I was rewatching late Season 1 and early Season 2 for my Zelenka voice... and let me tell you, I had forgotten how utterly wonderful SGA was back then! I mean, fresh and exciting and shiny, before the regular contact with Earth managed to make a far away galaxy seem boring and routine and before the weird colonialism and genocide and crap started up. And the characters! Grodin! Kavanaugh! Beckett! Ford! (Oh, Ford. Young and fresh-faced and innocent and wet behind the ears, so much enthusiasm and sincerity and potential and sweetness. He breaks my heart) Zelenka! (Oh, Zelenka. My Rodney/Radek love has come roaring back. I was Rodney/Radek OTP for so long before I was sold on the John/Rodney)

So, anyway, I watched Duet and Laura Cadman wouldn't shut up. This is an AU of the episode. WIP warning- I'll probably come back to it, but I have deadline obligations!

Open like the Morning Glory

What was that about the wildflowers on P6X-849? )

Also, I have no appropriate girlslash icon. Some kickass women- Hermione, Sam Carter, CJ, Starbuck, Kaylee, Chuck- but I don't have a single "shameless objectification of a sexy woman or pair of women" icon. Help?

Bye!

Metaillicar
Bye everybody! I am off to the wilds of the the midwest and Great Lakes, to see [info]wyomingnot, [info]als_wonderland, and [info]bd_black. And, you know, Chicago. I REALLY want to see Chicago.

Here, have a SGA rec to tide you over. Have you ever complained about how the show has handled Rodney's character growth inconsistently? That they forget just how much he's grown and changed since 48 Hours? That they don't seem to realize how John's plans are often bad plans, and sometimes John is in the wrong (And Teyla knows it)? Do you, like me, kink hard on amnesia?

Read Rewind, Reboot, Restore. Right now.

Okay. Bye. If I don't come back, tell my family I loved them. I shall probably Twit at you all- DragoJustine. I can't believe I was sucked into the Twitter vortex.

SGA fic: Scratch the Itch

Scratch the Itch
John/Caldwell, John/Rodney
1800 words, hard R.
Summary: John is an idiot.

AN: From the Fannish Bulwer-Lytton, the (fake) horrible first sentence awards. Quite a lot of people wanted to see this one as fic- see the thread. This is CRACK, utterly without pretense at quality. First sentence written by the hilarious [info]introductory.

In which John is an idiot )
television
Fannish round-up

Pushing Daisies: This show is made of a sparkling black-humor gemstone in a 24-carat genius-plated absurdity setting and hung on a necklace of shiny.

Dexter: This season of Dexter is FREAKING ME THE FUCK OUT. )

Chuck: I will not believe for one minute that Adam Baldwin doesn't know damn well what he's doing )

SGA: SGA fills me flailing, wild, flappy-handed, dolphin-pitched squee. )

Supernatural: Wherein I catch up on like three episodes. )

Do I have anything to say about SPN that everybody on my flist hasn't already said? *thinks* No? Okay, then. OMG SPOILER ALERT: The boys are pretty! Yaay pretty boys!

Yuletide: I got my assignment, and it's like it was custom-tailored for me. SERIOUSLY. Something I never would have written on my own impetus, but the minute I saw the details I was all "OMG I WANT TO WRITE THIS SO BADLY IT WILL BE AWESOME!" I'm torrenting the fandom now, and I have, you know, a season to watch and RESEARCH to do and NOTES to take. *cracks knuckles*

Life round-up
Short version: Lonely, depressed, broke, not wanting to talk about it. I think major changes need to be made, but I don't know what they are yet and I think I am going to be skating through Christmas on my savings. Just... it all seems pretty insurmountable. That's all.

Lots of TV reactions

television
Oh GOD. My life EXPLODED. I wanted to do so much writing and I can't and I wanted to do so much reading and I've had no time and I kind of HATE being this busy. I sort of fell into bed Saturday night, then got up and watched like four straight hours of TV today, because I am FRIED.

A big fat new season TV roundup )

So my TV lineup right now looks like: Wildly fannish about SGA and SPN. Likes Chuck, Pushing Daisies, and Dexter. Giving Sanctuary a chance. Watching Eureka every once in a while, when I have time. Sounds crazy, but the vast majority of those are short seasons and/or early seasons, and will be over by December (early January, in the case of Atlantis. Only Supernatural will go to spring).

SPN 4x03, in which my sentence structure deteriorates to Palin-esque levels from pure joy )

I may or may not have spent 45 minutes assembling a timeline for the 4x03 AU fic of Doom. There is NO WAY I would have time to write that and get it betad before next Thursday... but is there anybody who COULD beta it on Wednesday, if I do get it written?

SPN and SGA and DANIEL JACKSON!

  • Sep. 27th, 2008 at 5:55 PM
thursday squee, Squee
I found a debate watch group to watch with last night. Yaay social interaction! With pretty Obama-voting boys. Also? I want that man to be president SO BADLY. Mental agility, clear intelligence, superb verbal skills, critical thinking, generosity and respect combined with firm and well-articulated differences of opinion grounded in fact! It's like night and day from Bush. I WANT this man to be president.

mild SPN 4x02 spoilers, short )

SGA 5x10 spoilers )

And, in conclusion: Daniel Jackson, I am so hot for you.

SGA 5x09 )

The first issue of the OTW's academic journal. Good stuff there, especially the bit about Star Trek vidding- fascinating.

Stargate
Five ATA gene side-effects
For [info]sg1_five_things, here. Look, I finally wrote a five-things that really is a list of five things, instead of a huge actual fic!
Jack/Daniel and John/Rodney, 650 words, R

Rodney can't prove a thing, but after digging through Jack O'Neill's records... )

Random side question: I am starting to see movement on various fandom Christmas/holiday exchanges, including the poll post at [info]sg1_jubilee that basically NOBODY has answered. Is [info]sg1_jubilee the main exchange? (If so, why have none of you voted over there?) Is there one for SGA? I can't find it! (Or better yet, one for gateverse in general?)

About the women in Whispers...

I've spent something like 12 hours in the car over the past four days, which explains all the tl;dr.

I didn't feel the need to say anything about Whispers )

But, while we're rambling about the women in Whispers... )

Sometimes I really like writing Not!Fic like that. It's a whole lot easier than actual fic.
